The commercial I am choosing to do my speech on is a Samsung commercial advertising the new virtual reality headset. The commercial is advertising the benefits of the product by showing how it can take people into a whole new world. This commercial is advertising the product but doesn't ever tell the price of the product or any of the specifics. The reason for this is because it is only intended to grab the attention of the audience so they seek out the product on their own. The commercial involves an ostrich wearing the headset and giving it the feeling of flight. This commercial utilizes pathos throughout it to keep the viewers interested. Furthermore, it makes the audience want the product because it shows that you can do more things in virtual reality that are otherwise impossible in real life. Another aspect of the commercial used to create pathos is the music. The commercial plays Rocket Man by Elton John which is about being in the sky and flying. This creates humor because ostriches can not fly. In addition, the words at the end of the commercial are very impactful. The commercial states "we make what can't be made... so you can do what can't be done." While on the surface this statement seems to be only talking about the virtual reality headset and all the new things that it is capable of doing, but it also builds overall brand image. Basically, Samsung is saying as a company they want to help people achieve their dreams by making technology to support them. Overall, the commercial builds the Samsung brand in a creative way.
