Speech #2 Outline

Title: A proposal to expand the use and accessibility of flex meal at the University of Iowa. Purpose Statement: To persuade the University of Iowa to allow flex meals to be used at all University owned dinning locations. In addition, extend the hours that flex meals are accepted at the locations. Thesis Statement: At Universities across the country meal plans are available for purchase to the students that attend the school. The meal plan at the University of Iowa includes meals which are only accepted at certain times and locations. I believe with enough push from the student body that it should be possible to utilize flex meals at all University of Iowa owned dining. Body: Main point 1: Flex meals allowed at all locations -Catlett Late night grill -Blacks Gold grill Main Point 2: Longer hours of using flex meals -Burge marketplace is open all day but the time allowed to use flex meals is very limited. -The food truck has very limited hours -Hillcrest market place also...

Nuclear Power Plant Proposal Strengths- Showed how the benefits outweighed the negatives for nuclear power plants Discussed all the problems that fossil fuels are causing to the environment and how changing to only nuclear power plants would solve many of those problems. Weaknesses- lists wind energy as another way to solve the problem. Started talking about gas emissions and got off subject from nuclear power plants. Off-Campus Purchases Strengths- Identified the problem very well and how it relates to her. Proposed a single solution. Weaknesses- Lots of personal opinion throughout the paper. Became off topic while discussion discrimination of women. Course Requirement: Extortion Strength- Identifies the problem very clearly. Explains the problem of the textbook industry in a lot of detail. Weaknesses- Doesn't clearly identify a solution to the high price of college textbooks. Solution was just explaining the used textbook industry.

Speech #2 Proposal

The University of Iowa offers many meal plans to their students. All of the meal plans in one way or another all contain flex meals. Flex meals are supposed to be meals for Iowa students who have purchased them to use them when they want. However, flex meal locations and hours are very limited and can be difficult to use for students. In this proposal I will address all the limitations around using flex meals only during specific times of the day. In addition, I will discuss the locations that students can use flex meal at currently and what locations should be added to the flex meal plan. For example the limited time to be able to use flex meals at Burge Market place. Another issue is not being allowed to use flex meals at the late night grill at Catlett when it is still university owned. I have personally not been able to utilize my flex meals at the places I would like. Furthermore, I believe that because the meals are prepaid for they should not be difficult to use. The Univers...

This assignment asks us to deliver a speech to the class with the intent of solving a problem and being a catalyst for change. The topic of the speech is up to the presenter but it has to be something they are knowledgeable on. In addition the speech should be between 5-8 minutes long and provide visual aids for the audience.  -Does the problem have to be in our lives? -Will we be allowed to have notecards?

Introduction and Methods

Studying with Music The transition from high school to college gives students much more freedom. The change from being in class less but needing to study more can be difficult to grasp. Because there are no teachers or parents monitoring study the style of studying in college is based on the student. This poses the question, do college students listen to music while they study? Many studies have gone into the effects of listening to music while multitasking but the survey results of how many college students listen to music while studding is fascinating.              There have been a lot of studies on what listening to music does to people while trying to focus and get work done.
